Internal Corner Radii & Tool Access

Standard end mills cannot cut sharp 90° internal vertical corners. We recommend adding internal corner fillets (minimum R = 1/3 cavity depth) to allow standard cutter rotation without chatter.

Wall Thickness & Structural Rigidity

Walls thinner than 0.8 mm in metals or 1.5 mm in plastics can vibrate during milling or warp from residual stress. We identify fragile thin walls and suggest rib reinforcements.

Hole Depth-to-Diameter Ratios

Drilled holes with depth-to-diameter ratios greater than 8:1 can drift or cause drill bit breakage. We flag deep non-standard holes and suggest standard drill diameters.

Standard Thread Depths & Reliefs

Tapped thread depths beyond 3x nominal diameter provide negligible added pull-out strength while dramatically increasing tap breakage risk. We optimize thread depths for manufacturability.

Draft Angles for Injection Molding

Plastic molded parts require 1° to 2° of draft per side (and 3° to 5° on textured surfaces) to prevent drag marks and allow clean part ejection from the steel mold cavity.

Sheet Metal Bend Relief & Hole Spacing

Holes placed too close to a bend line (< 2x material thickness) will distort during press brake forming. We highlight bend reliefs and recommend safe offset distances.
